Residents of Chah Ab District in Takhar Province clashed with Taliban forces and workers from a Taliban-linked gold mining company, and five local residents and one employee of the mining company were killed, while at least 16 others were wounded, Amu TV reports on January 5. Protests erupted on January 2, over what residents described as environmental damage, harm to farmland and gold extraction carried out without sharing revenues with the local community. Taliban have not commented on the incident.
