Hezbollah announced in a statement on Sunday that the popular sit-in it organized the previous day, "in condemnation of the blatant Israeli interference in Lebanese affairs and the violation of national sovereignty, was a peaceful movement and a civilized expression of a popular stance rejecting the unjustified submission to foreign dictates."

The statement continued, "The protesters were surprised when some members of the Lebanese army fired tear gas at them, a reprehensible act that constitutes an unjustified attack on peaceful citizens. This is a suspicious attempt to embroil the army in a confrontation with its own people.

Out of concern, Hezbollah calls on the army command to launch an immediate investigation into this condemned attack and to take appropriate measures to preserve the military institution's role in protecting stability and civil peace." Hezbollah called on the Lebanese government to "fully assume its responsibilities in protecting peaceful protesters and their right to express their positions and demands," and demanded that it "reverse its decision to prevent Iranian planes from landing at Beirut airport and take serious measures to prevent the Israeli enemy from imposing its dictates and violating national sovereignty."

On another note, Hezbollah condemns the incident that targeted the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) two days ago in the vicinity of Rafik Hariri International Airport, and affirms its categorical rejection of any targeting of UNIFIL, as well as any damage to public and private property.
