On 1 January 2026, Afghanistan Freedom Front militants attacked the Taliban Court building in Maimana city, Faryab. Local sources reported a powerful explosion inside the building during a security meeting of Taliban officials. The AFF claimed to have targeted Taliban Judicial Police, who act as the operational force of the Vice and Virtue department. Conflicting reports emerged on the cause of the blast as the AFF and some locals claimed it was a rocket strike, while others said it was triggered by a planted mine. Following the incident, the Taliban surrounded the site. The AFF claimed that four Taliban members were killed and two others wounded, while some local sources reported one Taliban member wounded and a Taliban ranger destroyed. Health officials confirmed that several dead and wounded were transported to local hospitals. Unconfirmed number of fatalities coded as 3.
