On 1 January 2026, a war remnant which had been left behind by ISIL militants exploded in an open area within Al Kaim district (coded as Al Qaim city, Al Anbar), seriously injuring four young men who were on a hunting trip. Security forces cordoned off the site and launched a search and sweep operation in the surrounding area in case additional explosive remnants were present. 4 injured. There were no fatalities.
