UAV event in Libya on Thu 1st January 2026
1st January 2026
On 1 January 2026, an armed group (likely military forces aligned with the GNU, based on the type of action, the weapon used, and the location) killed 2 members of the Directorate Support Force of the police and wounded two others in a drone strike on the coast of Ajaylat (An Nuqat al Khams, West). The Directorate Support Force stated that its patrol was attacked while towing from the sea a vessel used for irregular migration to Europe, after stopping a group of migrants from departing. Some media claimed instead that the patrol was attempting to recover the vessel. The drone used in the strike was suspected to be Turkish-made.
