The Second Army Region has instructed all personnel to exercise greater caution while performing duties along the Thai–Cambodian border, following an incident in which a soldier was injured by mortar fire landing on the Thai side. The injured soldier is now out of danger, and authorities are investigating the cause.
On 6 January 2026, the Second Army Region clarified that at approximately 7:25 a.m., the Suranaree Task Force received a report of an explosion in the Chong Bok area, at Hill 469, Dom Pradit Subdistrict, Nam Yuen District, Ubon Ratchathani Province. One serviceman was injured: Sergeant Major Pratchaya Philachai, a platoon leader of the 1st Rifle Platoon, Infantry Company 6021 (RDF), who sustained shrapnel wounds to his right arm. Medical staff assessed his condition as a “green-level” patient, meaning the injuries were not life-threatening.
Following the incident, units in the area provided immediate first aid in accordance with field medical procedures and promptly evacuated the injured soldier from the operational area. The soldier was first taken to the Kut Chiang Mun Subdistrict Health Promoting Hospital and subsequently transferred to Nam Yuen Hospital for further treatment. He is reported to be stable and under close medical supervision.
The cause of the incident is currently under factual investigation by relevant authorities. The Second Army Region expressed concern for the injured serviceman and emphasized that all units must strictly enhance vigilance in carrying out missions to ensure the maximum safety of both personnel and civilians in the area. Updates will be provided to commanders and the public as appropriate.
