EOD Destroys Cambodian Explosives, 4 More Still Found Near Disputed Prasat Ta Muen Thom

On January 6, 2026, reporters stated that after the first EOD unit from Border Patrol Police Unit 21 destroyed 12 pieces of unexploded Cambodian ordnance at 10:30 a.m., EOD unit destroys 12 pieces of unexploded Cambodian ammunition found in cassava fields and rubber plantations

Later, at 3:30 p.m., a special EOD operations unit from Border Patrol Police Unit 21, led by Police Captain Sanchai Kulsawang, team leader, together with military personnel, police officers, and district administrative officials from Phanom Dong Rak District, jointly collected and destroyed unexploded ordnance originating from Cambodian gunfire that had landed in the border area.

The ordnance was found in rubber plantations and sugarcane fields behind Non Mayang Village, Ta Miang Subdistrict, Phanom Dong Rak District, Surin Province, near Prasat Ta Muen Thom. The explosives were destroyed to ensure the safety of local residents before they resumed agricultural activities.

The warheads destroyed in the afternoon included 100-mm mortar rounds, 82-mm mortar rounds, Thai-82 anti-tank rockets, and PG-7 rockets. EOD officers had to exercise the utmost caution, gently carrying the warheads and lowering them into prepared pits—handling them even more delicately than carrying a sleeping baby in a cradle.

After the explosives were completely destroyed and rendered harmless, the remaining fragments were handed over to officers at Phanom Dong Rak Police Station to be kept as evidence and for record-keeping purposes.
