Senior Station Officer of Kumira Fire Service, Al Mamun, told Dhaka Tribune, “On Sunday night, a group of robbers carried out an attack on the shipbreaking yard to loot materials from an old ship that had arrived there.Two ship breaking workers were killed in a late-night attack by a gang of robbers at a shipbreaking yard in Sitakunda, Chittagong.A Fire Service team recovered their bodies from the coastal area adjacent to a shipbreaking yard named KR Green Shipyard in the Kumira area of the upazila on Monday.The deceased have been identified as Khaled Pramanik and Saifullah.Both were residents of the Abdullahpur area under Sadullapur Sadar Police Station in Gaibandha district. They were employed as security guards at a shipbreaking yard known as KR Ship Making, located in the Kumira jetty area of Sitakunda.Senior Station Officer of Kumira Fire Service, Al Mamun, told Dhaka Tribune, “On Sunday night, a group of robbers carried out an attack on the shipbreaking yard to loot materials from an old ship that had arrived there. At that time, four workers from the yard chased them in a boat. During the robbers’ attack, two people were killed.”Abu Sazzad Munna, manager of the KR Ship Making yard, said that a scrap vessel had been brought to the yard on Sunday afternoon for cutting. Late at night, an organized gang of robbers entered the yard with the intention of looting materials from the ship. When the two on-duty security guards tried to resist, the robbers attacked them, killing both at the scene.Chittagong Industrial Police Additional Superintendent Abdullah Al Mahmud said, “The bodies of two security guards who were killed in a robbery at a shipbreaking yard in Sitakunda have been recovered. Legal action will be taken in connection with the incident.”
