New Year celebrations in Karachi turned chaotic as at least 25 people, including women and children, were injured by stray bullets fired into the air. Rescue officials reported that victims kept arriving at hospitals late into Wednesday night. Police launched a citywide crackdown, arresting 59 people and recovering illegal weapons.Gunfire was reported across multiple neighbourhoods, including Korangi, Lyari, Liaquatabad, Gulshan-e-Hijri, North Nazimabad, Garden, Tariq Road, and Landhi. Most victims were hit while at home or on the streets, highlighting the dangers of celebratory firing. Rescue teams rushed the injured to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, and Civil Hospital for treatment.Chhipa Foundation spokesperson Shahid Chaudhry said victims ranged from young children to elderly citizens. Some suffered serious injuries, while others were treated for minor wounds. Authorities emphasized that aerial firing is unpredictable and can endanger anyone in its path.Police conducted extensive raids and patrols to control the situation. During operations, they arrested 59 suspects, recovered firearms, bullets, and spent shells, and registered cases against those involved. Senior officials reiterated that aerial firing is a criminal offense with strict consequences.Authorities urged citizens to celebrate responsibly and avoid gunfire, warning that zero-tolerance measures will continue. Law enforcement emphasized public safety as a top priority and promised continued monitoring to prevent similar incidents in the future.
