A 20-year-old Indian doctoral student was shot dead near the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) campus in Toronto, Ontario, in an incident being investigated as a homicide, Toronto Police said. Daily Excelsior on December 26. The victim was identified as Shivank Avasthi, according to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). Police were called at around 1530 hours on December 24 to the area of Highland Creek Trail and Old Kingston Road following reports of an injured person lying on the ground. Upon arrival, officers found Avasthi with a gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene.|
