On December 23,at least five persons were killed and several others injured during an armed clash between two rival criminal groups over control of char land in Hatiya Upazila (Sub-District) of Noakhali District, reports The Daily Star. The incident occurred around 10:00 am at Jaglar Char village under Sukhchar Union, where members of the “Alauddin Dakat group” and the “Kopa Shamsu group” exchanged gunfire following a long-running dispute over land occupation. One of the deceased was identified as Alauddin, 35, son of Mahiuddin of Cherang Bari in Char Aman Ullah village under Sukhchar union. The identities of the other four deceased could not be known.
