On the afternoon of Friday, December 19, members of the Zacatecas State Preventive Police were victims of an attack with explosive devices by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in the municipality of Luis Moya.

The attack, which appears to have been a meticulously planned trap, occurred while the officers were responding to a report of a suspected body being found.

The State Peace and Security Commission confirmed that, despite the magnitude of the explosion, no officers were injured, although one police vehicle sustained considerable material damage.

The incident took place near the municipal cemetery. According to investigations and video footage circulating on social media, the attackers used a false report to lure the patrols onto a dirt road.

Details of the attack revealed by recordings made by the gunmen:

Prior Surveillance: In a video allegedly recorded by the attackers, two state police patrol vehicles can be seen approaching.

Remote Detonation: In the audio, two men can be heard coordinating the exact moment of the attack. As the vehicles stopped near a group of trees, one of the men gave the order: “Now?”, immediately followed by the explosion.

Escape: After detonating the explosive, those responsible fled into the undergrowth. Possible Retaliation for the Operation in Villa García
