On Christmas Day, a 55-year-old woman was found dead in a residential area in Boden and two people are being treated in hospital.

According to the police, the condition of the two injured is now stable, they announced on Friday evening.

One of the injured has been questioned by the police and has given a clear picture of what happened, reports P4 Norrbotten.

A suspected perpetrator, who had been known to the police to some extent before, was shot dead by police during the arrest.

It was around lunchtime on Christmas Day that the police were alerted to a violent crime.

– Police on site see that there are injured people and are being attacked in a way that I don't want to go into. Then they open fire, says PO Andersson, Commissioner at the Police Department for Serious Crimes in Norrbotten.

The man, who was in his 20s, dies from police gunshots. One of the victims, a woman in her 55s, is also found dead.

Two people who were injured are still being treated in hospital. Their condition is reported to be stable. Out of consideration for the victims and their relatives, neither the police nor the prosecutors wish to comment further on their condition at this time.

The police have had some knowledge of the suspect before, but do not want to go into more detail about what that means.

– You can be known to the police in several different ways, says PO Andersson at the police.

According to police, no known connection has yet been found between the suspected perpetrator and the victims. This is something that is still being investigated.

– He has a connection to Boden as a city.

Does he have a connection to the current residential area?

– We do not want to comment on that at this time.

Police are investigating the incident as an isolated incident.

– This indicates that it is an isolated incident to this address and those who stayed there. There is no danger to the public in any way, says PO Andersson.

In addition, a preliminary investigation into the shooting of the suspect has been initiated, as per routine. The latter is being led by the Special Prosecution Office together with the police's Special Investigations Department.

SVT reporter Hjalmar Fredbo was in the residential area on Christmas Day, where the police had cordoned off a large area. He says the incident has shaken the city.

– When I talk to neighbors in this area, they are sad or upset, because this is usually a quiet and nice residential neighborhood, he says.

A person who lives in the area saw a person being helped into an ambulance. The neighbor also reportedly heard a bang.
