On 21 November 2025, in Chongon (Guayas), two unidentified armed individuals on a motorbike (described as hitmen) shot and killed a man driving his car in a drive-by shooting on KM-10 of the Via a la Costa Highway, in front of the Puerto Azul residential complex, in the Santa Elena-Guayaquil direction. The victim was a former provincial court judge and lawyer and it is suspected the killing was related to his job. The authorship is unknown. 1 fatality.
