On 20 November 2025, in La Libertad (Santa Elena), four unidentified armed individuals (described as hitmen) who arrived on a motorbike shot and killed a man in the Del Pezo's meat stall. The victim was a journalist who covered corruption and local issues independently although there were no reports if this was the attack motivation. The victim had received death threats and he was shot while working at his food stand. The authorship and motivations are unknown. 1 fatality.
