On 19 November 2025, in Portoviejo (Manabi), two unidentified armed individuals on a motorbike (described as hitmen) shot and injured two women riding another vehicle in a drive-by shooting at the intersection of Ejercito Avenue and Jipijapa Street. One of the women returned fire and injured one of the suspects, an adolescent. There were no fatalities.
