On 19 November 2025, JNIM assaulted a position of the Gendarmerie in Garbougna (Gotheye, Tillaberi). International sources mentioned the death of between 12 and 20 Gendarmes, as well as the injury of around thirty others. Other sources affirmed the death of 21 officers, including Captain BL. JNIM claimed to have killed around 15 Gendarmes and seized two vehicles equipped with twin CS/LM2 heavy machine guns, twenty-six AK-rifles, five RPG-7 launchers, four guns, four PK machine guns, two SVD Dragunov rifles, two DShK heavy machine guns as well as other weapons and ammunition. 12 fatalities coded, as per the lowest estimate available.
