On 19 November 2025, in Puerto Barrios, Izabal, according to witnesses, at least two armed men chased, shot and killed the sister of a Vamos (Vamos: Let's Go Guatemala) Congressman and her one-year-old granddaughter. One line of investigation suggests that the attack could be linked to a settling of scores involving the Congressman. The attack comes after another attack against the Congressman and his bodyguard, occurred on 12 August, in which the bodyguard was killed. Two suspects were arrested. 2 fatalities.
