On 19 November 2025, in San Pedro Sula, Cortes, armed members of the Barrio 18 Gang shot and killed a sub commissioner of the National Police during an operation conducted by the Police Investigation Directorate (DPI) in the Montebello neighborhood, Chamelecon sector. According to reports, officers were ambushed by gang members hiding in the area. One officer accompanying the victim was injured during the exchange of gunfire. Police surrounded a nearby abandoned house and captured eight suspects, including a minor identified as the shooter. The firearm used in the attack, a rifle, was found inside the house. The motive is linked to gang-related criminal activity. 1 fatality. 1 injured. 8 arrested.
