An explosion has occurred at a building in central Gothenburg. No one has been injured.

“It's a gate that has been blown up,” says Magnus Schildt, police officer on duty.

At 00:40 on Friday night, SOS Alarm was alerted to an explosion in the Johanneberg area in central Gothenburg. A gate and windows along a facade have been damaged, the Greater Gothenburg Rescue Service said in a press release.

During the night, the National Bomb Squad worked to rule out additional explosives at the address. Police forensic experts have also worked at the scene to secure any traces.

There is currently no arrest.

– We have searched for a perpetrator, but have not found anyone at this time. We have a suspected escape route that we have searched along and are trying to secure camera surveillance, says Magnus Schildt, officer on duty at the police.

Police: We work broadly

The technical investigation was completed shortly before 6 a.m. and the barriers were removed during the morning. A patrol will be on site during the day to knock on doors and take statements from residents.

– Right now we are working extensively to create a picture of the motive. Links to gang crime is one of the theories we are looking into, but we do not want to get locked into such an early incident, says Christian Brattgård, the police's press spokesman.

The police have launched a preliminary investigation into public danger.
