An armed confrontation was recorded in the early hours of Sunday, November 23 in the community of La Loma, municipality of Acambay, State of Mexico, when a joint operation of the State Police and the National Guard attended to a report of vehicle theft. The stolen unit was a red Bronco van with a trailer carrying a Razer vehicle, located through a cell phone located inside the truck. Upon arriving in La Loma de Juanjo, the security forces were greeted with shots, which triggered a confrontation that lasted about an hour. During the exchange of fire, Jair Ernesto Salazar, a member of the Special Security Force (FES), lost his life. In addition, two state police officers and two members of the National Guard were injured; the members of the GN were transferred to the Military Hospital in Mexico City for care. After the confrontation, it was identified that the aggressors belonged to the Municipal Police of Acambay. Authorities arrested eight municipal officials, including the Director of Public Security, Iván Ángeles González, along with six male police officers and one woman. An NP 300 patrol and a Chevrolet S10 Max pickup were secured at the site, both with firearm impacts, as well as several long and short weapons, including a Galil IWI caliber 5.56×45 mm. The responsible units confirmed that the case will be thoroughly investigated to clarify the reasons for the attack and the participation of municipal officials. The situation generates internal reviews and additional security protocols in the region to avoid similar incidents.
