Police fired live rounds at a 25-year-old man on Friday evening after a threatening situation arose. The man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

At 8 p.m. on Friday evening, the police wanted to stop a motorist near Burseryd, south of Gislaved. The motorist chose to continue driving, and at that time the speed was 110 kilometers per hour.

The journey continued and the police decided to use spike strips to stop the car.

On Route 26 near Gislaved, the police stopped the car after the driver drove over the spike mat. Afterwards, the man chose to run.

– A threatening situation arises and the patrol has assessed that it was so threatening that they fire their service weapon, says Angelica Israelsson Silfver, press spokesperson for the police.

What kind of threatening situation was that?

– A preliminary investigation has been launched and I cannot go into details, but what happened will be investigated.

How is the man's condition?

– The police treated the person afterwards and then an ambulance took care of the person.

In a press release, the Prosecution Authority states that on Saturday, prosecutors on duty arrested the 25-year-old on probable cause suspicion of aggravated drunk driving, aggravated threat against an official and preparation for arson.

A decision on possible detention will be made by Tuesday at the latest.
