In a high-impact operation, federal and state security forces dealt a blow to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) with the capture of a high-priority target.
In a deployment in Culiacán, Sinaloa, José Socorro Sánchez Gómez, alias "El L12," was arrested. He was considered a major instigator of violence and served as the leader of a CJNG cell operating in Tijuana, Baja California, one of the most contested territories for organized crime due to its strategic importance for drug trafficking into the United States.
Authorities identify José Socorro Sánchez as responsible for the violence in the border region, involved in a wide range of crimes, including:
Drug dealing and contract killings
Extortion and protection rackets
Illegal operation of slot machines
The detainee has three outstanding arrest warrants for homicide. Furthermore, he is directly linked to the murder of a woman on September 11, 2025.
The capture of “El L12” in Sinaloa represents a significant step forward in dismantling the CJNG structure that operates thousands of kilometers away, along the disputed northern border.
