A fierce confrontation that lasted for more than ten hours shook the town of Ayahualtempa, in the Montaña Alta region of Guerrero, on Friday, October 31, 2025.
The attack, perpetrated by an armed group against the population, culminated in the arrest of 14 assailants by the Community Police.
The Regional Coordinator of Community Authorities - Community Police (CRAC-PC-PF) and the Indigenous and Popular Council of Guerrero - Emiliano Zapata (CIPOG-EZ) confirmed the outcome of the conflict:
Three community police officers killed, including the son of the commissioner of Amatitlán.
At least seven seriously wounded by gunfire (names withheld for security reasons).
14 assailants arrested, members of the armed group. The attack occurred when authorities from communities belonging to the CRAC-PC-PF and the CIPOG-EZ attended a community assembly in Ayahualtempa, convened to address coordination issues between Amatitlán, Ayahualtempa, and the Founding Peoples.
Upon arriving at 10:00 a.m., the authorities were met with gunfire from a group identified by residents as "Los Ardillos." The truck provided by the Protection Mechanism for Human Rights Defenders and Journalists to their colleague Jesús Plácido Galindo, who was accompanying them, was hit by three bullets.
The community police managed to repel the attack and arrest 14 members of the armed group. Among those captured was Luis Morales Rojas, who identifies himself as the leader of the Ayahualtempa community police and had outstanding arrest warrants issued by the Commissioner.
The detainees will undergo a re-education process under the internal regulations of the CRAC-PC-PF and the Community Territory Assembly. State Intervention and New Control: Following the events, the State Government intervened in the community, deploying an operation involving the State Police, National Guard, and Army, resulting in the arrest of three of the criminal leaders.
Subsequently, the CRAC-PC-PF and the CIPOG-EZ regained full control of Ayahualtempa, expelling a leader of organized crime.
In an assembly held that same night, the community of Ayahualtempa opted to join the security system of the Founding Peoples to maintain peace and comprehensive security.
This community security system is governed by its right to self-determination and customs (protected by Article 2 of the Constitution and ILO Convention 169), and strictly prohibits the planting, cultivation, transport, sale, and consumption of drugs of any kind.
