In Tanintharyi Region’s Tanintharyi Township, revolutionary forces have completely captured the border town of Maw Taung, according to a resistance source speaking to Yangon Khit Thit News.

It is learned that in the early morning of November 14, revolutionary forces succeeded in seizing Maw Taung after overrunning the last remaining military hill camp there, after which the town fell under their control. Revolutionary forces led by the KNLA had besieged and attacked Maw Taung for many months, and from November 11 onward, a joint resistance column launched a final offensive, culminating in the town’s complete capture in the early hours of November 14.

A displaced civilian who witnessed events said, ‘The town has fallen. Now the soldiers have already fled to the Thai side in three large military trucks, carrying both weapons and supplies. Thailand has taken in the soldiers along with their weapons and gear. They ran across through the middle of where the displaced people are sheltering to get to Thailand. The Thai army has confiscated their weapons. This morning the soldiers came out raising white flags as they fled.’

Revolutionary forces are now clearing the area in Maw Taung town, while the military has been carrying out continuous airstrikes, and there is still concern about further air attacks.

Because of the battle for Maw Taung, nearly 3,000 civilians from the town have fled to the Thai–Myanmar border area, including many elderly people, young children, and pregnant women.
