Early Sunday morning, a powerful explosion occurred at a gate on Ljuragatan in Norrköping.
A man in his 70s was taken to hospital. His injuries are not reported to be serious. Residents in the stairwell were evacuated to a nearby school this morning.
The explosion occurred at 4:15 a.m. on Sunday morning. Emergency services, police and ambulance were called to the building. The National Bomb Squad also arrived at the scene during the morning.
Several people called in to report the explosion. Many windows had been shattered both on the ground floor and the floor above. Cars parked nearby were also damaged and there is a lot of broken glass at the scene.
“It is a very powerful explosion,” says Martina Gradian, police spokesperson.
"I feel anxious being here" - in the clip above you can hear two residents after Sunday morning's detonation.
A man who was in one of the apartments was checked by an ambulance on site and then taken to hospital. His injuries are not reported to be serious.
Initially, the residents were able to remain in the building. But shortly before 8 a.m., word came that those living in the stairwell in question had been evacuated to Ljura School.
The site was cordoned off after the explosion for technical examination. The police have interviewed witnesses and residents during the morning. During the morning, all cordons were lifted and the emergency operation was concluded. The bomb shelters are also ready at the site.
The incident is being classified by the police as public destruction. There are currently no arrests or suspects in the case.
– We are working feverishly to find the right perpetrator or perpetrators. We are trying to do everything we can in terms of investigation, says police spokesperson Angelica Israelsson Silfver.
After technical investigations, the police have a good picture of what exploded, but do not want to say what type of bomb it was, citing the ongoing preliminary investigation.
