Undefined Explosive Device (UED) event in Jönköping, Liljeholmen area, Sweden on Fri 21st November 2025

An explosion occurred inside a stairwell on Liljeholmen in Jönköping late Friday evening. Several people inhaled smoke, but no one was reportedly injured.

Shortly before half past eleven on Friday evening, the police were alerted to an explosion at an apartment building on Liljeholmen.

The explosion occurred inside a stairwell that filled with smoke. Several people were checked on site by ambulance for smoke inhalation, but no one was injured, police said.

The blockades were lifted.

A technical investigation was underway overnight and residents were kept indoors until the investigation was completed. At 00.20 the national bomb disposal unit was contacted to investigate the crime scene.

– We are ready at the scene and the cordons have been lifted, says Fredrik Andersson, duty officer at the police, to SVT at seven o'clock on Saturday morning.

The police conducted door-to-door searches in the area during the night and the crime classification is public danger destruction and crimes involving flammable and explosive goods.

– We do not have anyone in custody or a suspect in the case at this time, says Angelica Israelsson Silfver, press spokesperson for the police at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

At this stage of the investigation, the police do not want to provide further details about what exploded or any gang connections, but are interested in receiving information from the public.
