The bomb squad responded to Trandared in Borås after an explosion near a car during the night of Monday. According to the police, it is believed that the explosion was caused by a hand grenade. In connection with the explosion, a VMA was issued. On Wednesday, the police announced that two people under the age of fifteen are suspected of the crime.
The alarm was received by the police at 11:21 p.m. on Sunday evening. The police launched a major operation at the scene and cordoned off an area on Trandared in Borås. The bomb squad was called in to secure the area. At 5 a.m. on Monday morning, the police were able to lift all cordons.
– During the day, we at the police will work on safety and preventive measures, as well as check cameras in the area, says the police spokesperson on Monday morning.
No one was injured in the explosion.
Shortly after 00:30, a VMA, important message to the public, was issued.
"A suspected dangerous object may be in the area. Residents near Söderlidsgatan are urged to stay indoors," the message said.
The public was also urged to respect the police cordons. The danger was only over at 2:30 a.m., the police announced. The VMA could thus be lifted.
– The bomb squad believes that the danger is over and has done its job. It is still cordoned off, says Joakim Dahlberg, station commander at the police.
On Wednesday, the police announced that they had arrested two young people suspected of the crime in Trandared.
– This morning we brought in two young perpetrators, says Stina Frenning, group leader for serious violent crimes in the Älvsborg police area.
They are both under the age of fifteen and are suspected of gross public destruction and violation of the Act on Flammable and Explosive Goods.
– Because they are minors, we cannot arrest and detain them, so social services take over.
The explosion at Trandared is one of several alarms that the police have received in recent weeks. In total, there have been five alarms in just over five weeks in the Borås area. The police cannot answer whether the cases are connected to each other, but according to the police spokesperson, it is something that is being investigated.
– It is clear that we are looking into connections with previous events, says Jennifer Last, police spokesperson.
The explosion between the night of Monday is being investigated as serious public danger and a violation of the Act on Flammable and Explosive Goods.
