On 26 April 2021, in Hsipaw town (Hsipaw Township, Kyaukme District, Shan State), an education department office was struck by a landmine explosion, reportedly by a local defence group. They claimed that the deputy education director was cooperating with the military junta by forcing striking government staff to return to work and that the attack was a warning. No one was injured.
