On 2 May 2021, unknown militants launched 4 Katyusha rockets targeting the Balad Air Base in Salah Al Din province. The attack did not result in any damages. The rockets originated from the Al Nay area of Al Khalis district. The launchers used in the attack reported had pictures of the deceased former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps - Quds Forces (Qassem Soleimani) and the deceased former deputy commander of the Popular Mobilization Forces (Abu Mahdi Al Muhandis).
