On 20 January 2021, a roadside IED by Al Shabaab militants detonated, targeting the vehicle of the Yaqshid deputy commissioner at the Towfiiq Junction road neighborhood in Mogadishu - Yaqshid district (Yaqshid, Banadir). At least three civilian bystanders were injured by the blast. The deputy Commissioner survived the attack.
