On 17 January 2021, a remote controlled IED by Al Shabaab militants detonated, targeting a convoy accompanying the lower Shabelle region governor and government security forces (Bancroft/Danab) unit commander from Afgoye heading to Balidogle airport in the vicinity of Tixsiile village (Afgooye, Lower Shabelle). At least five soldiers were killed. AS claimed to have killed one foreign trainer (US).
