On 16 January 2021, Islamic State militants detonated multiple IEDs targeting at least 4 vehicles belonging to the Egyptian military forces in Tufaha south of Bir Al-Abd (Bir Al-Abd, North Sinai), killing at least 3 soldiers and wounding an unknown number of others. The attack destroyed a tank, bulldozer, and Humvee, and damaged an unknown number of other vehicles.
