On 7 March 2021, Houthi forces threw a grenade at a migrant facility at the Immigrations and Passport Authority in Sanaa-Bir Ubayd (As Sabain, Amanat al Asimah) as Ethiopian immigrants staged a hunger strike against being detained against their will, as they denied be extorted to not fight for Houthi forces in battles in Yemen. Brawls broke out between migrants and guards. Houthi forces closed the door, shot and threw a grenade at the facility which caused a fire, leading to the death of at least 44 migrants and injury of hundreds. The plights by Ethiopians were mostly in Afaan Oromo language.
