On 3 March 2021, unknown militants targeted US forces at the Ain Assad Air Base in Anbar province. The militants launched 10 Katyusha rockets targeting the air base from Al Baghdadi district, Anbar province. 4 rockets hit the base. One American civilian contractor died as a result of a heart attack during the attack. US forces responded with counterbattery fire at the Al Baghdadi district, killing 11 Iraqi civilians.
