On 2 October 2020, an IED planted by an unidentified armed group on the M5 highway between Homs and Rural Damascus by an unidentified armed group detonated targeting the vehicle of the chief of political intelligence in al-Hasakeh, killing him and his chief of staff. Another source suggested they died in a traffic accident along the M5.
