On 20 September 2020, a car-bomb detonated near Sharfadin temple (Sharaf al-Din shrine), a holy site of Yezidis located on the northern side of Mount Sinjar in Ninewa, Northern Iraq. Iraqi security forces claimed that a Turkish drone attack targeted a vehicle carrying 3 PKK militants, but various sources later dismissed these claims, reporting it was a car loaded with explosives and detonated by an unidentified group. No fatalities or injuries occurred.
