An Afghan Border Security Force personnel was killed and two other personnel sustained injuries on January 10 when a mortar hit a bunker during an exchange of fire between the Security Forces (SFs) of Pakistan and Afghanistan in Sarkano District of Kunar Province in Afghanistan which lies adjacent to Bajaur District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, reports The Khorasan Diary. There were more than 50 rounds fired. After the mortar shells landed, hundreds of families left their homes, locals in Kunar told The Khorasan Diary. Reports had emerged of helicopter shelling in Salarzai area of Bajaur District close to the border on January 9, but there was no official confirmation. The area has been in the thickets of violence after a video of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) appeared while hoisting their flag, which according to Pakistani officials was an abandoned post. There were no comments from Pakistan or Afghanistan on the recent firing on the border.
