On 15 December 2024, overnight, suspected Al Shabaab planted five IEDs which exploded at residences in the Galmudug neighborhood in Mogadishu - Garasbaaley (Afgooye, Lower Shabelle). The motive of the attack is based on the recent installation of CCTV cameras to the homes. The Somali government required all businesses and to install surveillance cameras in all their business places. Al Shabaab rejected this decision and started targeting shops with CCTV cameras. At least five people were injured including children.
