On 24 December 2024, Pakistani military jets conducted airstrikes on at least seven villages, including Murgha (Barmal, Paktika), Laman, Pasa, Mela, Wazbargi and Pitaogi, targeting local residents and Pakistan's Waziristani refugees. The Taliban claimed that at least 46 people were killed, and 40 others, including 5-10 children, were injured in the air raids. The Taliban condemned the strikes as an act of aggression and a violation of Afghan territory, vowing to retaliate against Pakistan. Margha village was completely destroyed, and at least five houses were destroyed. Pakistani officials, however, claimed the airstrikes targeted four suspected TTP camps and eleven houses, killing at least 20 TTP members and destroying four TTP bases, including the base headed by the chief of Umar Media (TTP's media wing). UNICEF reported that at least 20 children were killed, and UNAMA confirmed that dozens of civilians were killed as a result of the airstrikes.
