Police found two people with stab wounds in Sint-Jans-Molenbeek (Brussels) on Monday evening. Several shots were also fired nearby. Whether the incidents are related is unclear for now. The public prosecutor's office is investigating the case.The police were called to the area shortly before midnight after local residents heard gunshots near the Bonnevie Park in Sint-Jans-Molenbeek. ‘Upon arrival, the officers did not find anyone at the scene, but bullets were discovered near the park,’ says Yasmina Vanoverschelde of the Brussels public prosecutor's office.A search of the vicinity led to the discovery of an injured man in the Berchemstraat, some 150 metres away. ‘He had sustained stab wounds and was lying between two parked vehicles,’ Vanoverschelde added. ‘The emergency services arrived at the scene and the victim was taken to hospital.’Not much later, a second injured person was discovered a few streets away in the Karperstraat also in Molenbeek. This person too had also suffered stab wounds and was transferred to hospital. ‘The condition of both victims is stable and their lives are not in danger,’ the public prosecutor's office says. A ballistics expert and forensic scientists attended the scene as part of the investigation.‘At this stage of the investigation, no suspects have yet been arrested,’ the prosecutor's office spokeswoman said. ‘It is still unclear whether there is a connection between the stabbings and the shooting at Bonnevie Park. The investigation is in full swing. In the interest of this investigation, no further information can be released at this time.’
