At least four people were injured on Saturday by the detonation of an explosive device near a hospital in Kabul, reported the Afghan police, which has already opened an investigation to clarify the incident.

The attack took place "near the Shaikh Zahid hospital, on the airport road, and injured four civilians," police spokesman Khalid Zadran told EFE.

The police officer added that all the injured were taken to a hospital for treatment and noted that an investigation into the explosion has already begun.

The site of the attack is near the Ministry of the Interior, in northern Kabul.

No armed group has claimed responsibility for the attack at the moment.

The de facto Taliban government has offered security guarantees since coming to power in August 2021, but attacks by the jihadist group Islamic State (IS) continue to spread terror in Afghanistan.

The Islamic State is behind the attack that killed the then Taliban Minister for Refugees, Khalilur Rahman Haqqani, on December 11, victim of an explosion inside the department he headed.

Rahman Haqqani was the nephew of the Minister of the Interior, Siraj Uddin Haqqani, who leads the Haqqani Network, an extremist organization with close ties to the Taliban and Al Qaeda, according to the UN Security Council.
