On December 17, Police claimed that at least four civilians sustained bullet injuries when the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) had used villagers, including minors, in a bid to save the life of their senior cadre, Karthik alias Dasru, reports The Hindu. Earlier, SATP reported that Karthik, who was their ‘Odisha state committee member’ and was carrying a reward of INR 2.5 million, was among seven Maoists killed in the encounter in the forest hills of Kalhaja-Dondarbera of the south Abujhmad area in Narayanpur District in the Bastar division of Chhattisgarh on December 12.
