Undefined Explosive Device (UED) event in Shiroro, Bassa area, Nigeria on Thu 19th December 2024

One person has been confirmed killed while four others were injured in a bomb explosion which took place in the Bassa community of Shiroro local government of Niger state on Thursday.

The injured have been admitted at the IBB Specialist Hospital in Minna the state capital.

According to sources, the victims were children who were playing around their fathers farm when they came across an unexploded bomb.

It was said that one of the children was fondling with the device when suddenly it exploded, killing him instantly and injuring the four others.

The incident created panic in the community leading to the villagers running helter-skelter, believing that the explosion was from the dreaded Boko Haram members that had held sway in the area for some time now .

However when the situation normalized the villagers rushed to the scene to recover the lifeless body of the deceased and convey those injured to the hospital in Minna.

The Commissioner for Transport Hajia Hadiza Idris Kuta who is from the area when contacted confirmed the story, describing the situation as “unfortunate”.

Hajia Hadiza Kuta said ” only one person died and he had been buried”.

Police Public Relations Officer Niger State Police Command Superintendent of Police Wasiu Abiodun could not be reached for comment.
