Around 20 homes have been evacuated this morning (December 18) after an unexploded device was found in the garden of a house in Wisbech. The incident was reported just after 9am.

Cambridgeshire Police were called to a property on Cherry Road after receiving reports of the device. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team were also on the scene to assist.

Photos that were posted to social media showed the device that was found in the garden. A police cordon was put in place and people are being advised to avoid the area until further notice.

A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Police said: "We were called at 9.11am today with reports of an unexploded device found in the garden of a house on Cherry Road, Wisbech.

"Officers are currently at the scene and approximately 20 nearby houses have been evacuated for safety reasons. A cordon has been put in place as a precaution and people are being advised to avoid the area.

"The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit have been called to assist. Thank you to everyone for their patience."
