On 29 November 2024, in Kawthoung township of Kawthoung district (Tanintharyi region), the Myanmar military's Navy fired artillery at 4 Thai fishing boats near Than Kyun village, alleging territorial incursion. The military captured two of the boats and detained 4 Thai nationals and 27 Myanmar nationals onboard for questioning, announcing they discovered non-weapon commodities linked to what they claimed to be 'terrorist' groups. Khit Thit Media reported that two Thai nationals were killed, and several others were injured. Mizzima, VOA, Eleven Media Group, BBC News, and DVB reported that 1 Thai national drowned. Fatalities coded as 1, using the lowest estimate.
