Two cadres of the Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP), a splinter group of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), have been arrested and arms and ammunition seized following a gunfight between the JJMP cadres and the police in Sikit-Bandua Forest area under Herhanj Police Station limits in Latehar District of Jharkhand on November 26, reports The Week. Latehar Superintendent of Police (SP) Kumar Gaurav said they received a tip-off about the presence of Naxalites [Left Wing Extremists, LWEs] in Sikit-Bandua Forest. "Upon spotting the police team, the Naxalites (JJMP cadres) resorted to firing, to which the police personnel retaliated, leading to a gunfight. However, taking advantage of the dark, the red rebels fled deeper into the forests, but two of their comrades were nabbed," he said. Three rifles, 96 cartridges, and other items related to the banned organisation were also recovered during the search operation in the area, the SP added.
