<p>Düsseldorf For the second time within two days, an aircraft bomb was found near the airport. The ten-hundredweight explosive device had to be defused that evening. More than 10,000 people were affected. After a delay of more than an hour, the bomb was defused and all road closures were lifted.
Airport can only be reached via A52 and Danziger Straße

+++ Defusing completed around 9:50 p.m.
+++ All road closures lifted
+++ 10,000 residents affected
+++ No flight operations during the defusing

The bomb was on Rhein-Fire-Strasse in the Lichtenbroich district. It was discovered during exploratory work. By 6:30 p.m. at the latest, 4074 people had to leave their homes within a 500-meter radius of the site. During the evacuation period, a collection point was set up in the rooms of the Max-Planck-Gymnasium, Koetschaustraße 36.

The emergency services originally planned to start defusing at 8 p.m. "However, we still see citizens in the danger area," said a fire department spokesman. Therefore, the emergency services could not start defusing until around 9:20 p.m. The work went according to plan. After 30 minutes the bomb was defused.

In a radius of 1000 meters around the site (another 6,739 people live here) nobody was allowed to be outdoors. Residents were advised not to go near window panes and to drive their cars away as a precaution. The munitions disposal service of the district government of Düsseldorf took over the defusing.
From 7 p.m. the streets around the airport were closed. The A44 was closed in both directions from 7.30 p.m. This blocked the main access road to the airport. Most of the flight operations could be continued. Only during the 30-minute disarming there were no take-offs and landings.

Local public transport severely restricted

According to a Rheinbahn spokeswoman, the best way to get to the airport by public transport was to take the 721 bus from the main train station due to the rail strike during the closure. She drove according to the normal schedule. There was no special timetable during the defusing. Many trams and buses drove diversions.

An aircraft bomb was defused near the airport on Tuesday . She was found on Niederrheinstrasse in the Lohausen district. The disarming took 33 minutes. The airport had created a time corridor for the time after 4 p.m. in which there were no take-offs and landings. The evacuation measures affected significantly fewer people than when the bomb was found: 78 citizens had to leave their homes, and a day care center with 70 children and a few teachers was also affected.
