12th November 2024
The recovery of American M4 rifles from terrorists killed in an encounter in the Akhnoor sector, Jammu District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on October 28-29, has raised alarm among security forces, reports India Today on November 12. These weapons, believed to have been left behind by the U.S. military during their withdrawal from Afghanistan, are now being used by militants in J&K. The M4 rifle was first seen in the region in 2017, when security forces killed Talha Rashid Masood, the nephew of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) chief Masood Azhar, in Pulwama. Since then, the rifle has been linked to several terror incidents, including attacks in Kathua, Reasi, Poonch, and Rajouri.
