On 25 October 2024, Al Shabaab fired several mortar shells against ATMIS BNDF troops and government security forces (SNA) at a forward operation base at the entrance of Balcad town (Balcad, Middle Shabelle). The mortars landed inside and out side the base. One mortar hit an IDP camp near the base and killed three civilians and injured several others. Al Shabaab claimed responsibility.
